Resene is a Sustainable Business of the Year Award winner

Sustainable Business Network awards

In 2010, Resene won the Sustainable Business of the Year Award and the Trailblazer - Large & Corporate Business Award at the National Sustainable Network Awards and at the Sustainable Business Network Central Awards.

This award recognises Resene as a business who has sustainability as a strategic part of their business operations, products and services and is a business innovator and leader positioned to maintain market advantages while providing ecological, social and financial dividends.

For Resene, our sustainability journey started in the 1950s with the introduction of the first waterbased paint in Australasia, well before the term 'sustainability' was even coined. And like any good journey, we continue to build on our efforts and traditions.

In 2008, Resene won the Trailblazer - Large & Corporate Business Award at the Sustainable Business Network - National Awards and also won the Trailblazer - Large & Corporate Business Award at the Sustainable Business Network Central

Million dollar eco winner, What's new 2009

Million dollar eco winner

Professor Peter Gluckman, Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, awarded Resene the winning prize in Industrial Research Ltd's (IRL) What's Your Problem New Zealand? competition

Resene was awarded up to $1 million in IRL R&D services to develop premium waterborne paints based on resins made from up to 80 per cent sustainable ingredients, breaking the long term reliance on gas and oil for high performance paints.

Resene Managing Director Nick Nightingale says "This competition presented an amazing opportunity for Resene to team its commercial experience with world leading science and revolutionise an industry. We're committed to sustainable developments and we took a bold idea to the judges and showed them how it can be realised with IRL".

The What's Your Problem New Zealand? competition sought to raise the profile of R&D and encourage local firms to improve long term productivity and profitability through increased R&D investment.

Tony

Hall of fame

Resene has been family owned since it started in 1946. Ted Nightingale started Resene in his garage, later passing the reigns onto his son Tony, who passed the reins on many years later to his son, Nick.

Tony's hard work and dedication has been acknowledged with his acceptance into the Business Hall of Fame. Tony Nightingale (1939-2003) was an innovator, taking Resene multinational, introducing new products, processes and colour systems. Tony was passionate about paint and colour, with a knack for developing technologies and ideas that had never been seen before in the paint market.
