Mural Masterpieces - Breens Intermediate SchoolLocation: Team: Accessible to public: Mural theme: Background to mural creation: The mural illustrates some of the heritage of the school. The Maori Princess in the centre of the mural is Hereora, the guardian of the springs of this area; the seven springs are shown as her hair and one of the school blocks is named about her. The second of our three blocks is named Aoraki (Mount Cook, the largest peak in the South Island) and is depicted to the left of Hereora on the mural. Pouakai (or Haast Eagle) is the name of the third school block and is shown to the right of Hereora. Hereora is holding a circle that has the tree of Breens values inside it (Belonging, Bold, Brilliant, Brave and Beautiful). The mural also shows the elements, fire, water, air and earth, which we cannot live without. |
