Celebrating Tauranga Moana.
Background to mural creation:
The students designed and painted the mural as part of an art extension programme. The teams at school are represented by manu (birds). The children said that the mural is the joining of the whanau (teams) and how large parts of the school can be together. It represents the school and the community around it (native birds, plants, moana, Papamoa Hills, Mangatawa, Hikurangi, Kopukairoa) – the last three being the three whales from a local traditional story from iwi. This mural shows that the students are proud of where they have come from.
