Background to mural creation:
Almond House Backpackers decided to commission the painting of a mural on their front wall to give their building and business an identity, provide a connection to the region they live in and to add colour to the neighbourhood.  Marilyn Andrews, the artist, was able to do this by painting three connecting panels - the first panel depicts our immediate neighbourhood with Nelson homes and the centre of New Zealand, the second panel depicts a wider view of Nelson with the harbour, Boulders Bank and Haulashore Island and the third panel depicts the Abel Tasman National Park linking us to our wider environment.
