Mural Masterpieces - Heaton Normal Intermediate SchoolLocation: Team: Accessible to public: Mural theme: Background to mural creation: The art students produced designs that illustrated how their families arrived in New Zealand. Also included in their designs were flags, symbols, colours and other imagery from their own cultural mosaic. The school library is currently undergoing a makeover and rebuild. A new mural illustrating and celebrating their diverse cultural history seemed an appropriate project to celebrate an area of school where pupils and teachers will learn about history and culture. The mural was painted onto a panel that was rescued from the old library before it went into a skip bin. The mural is framed by flax weaving, which represents the woven cultures of the peoples of New Zealand.
