Background to mural creation:
Following the new New Zealand curriculum’s introduction, our school consulted our community and came up with a School vision, values and key goals. They then held a design competition to turn the words into a visual depiction. A year 6 girl, Sam Tawharu, won the competition. They then took Sam’s design to a graphic artist who turned it into a digital image. They added other design elements from other children’s submissions. The mural team was formed to turn the graphic design into a mural. They started on a Community Helping Hands Day when a team of people worked on the mural, then they held evenings for painting. It represents what the school stands for and they are all very proud of it.
