Background to mural creation:
Emma and Carly took on the
massive task of designing and painting the mural at Frankton Christian
Kindergarten including the first time-consuming task of painting
the entire fence blue.
Frankton Christian Kindergarten decided to make
their new playground look really colourful when they developed
their new play area in 2001 and selected a theme of Noah's ark
because this meant that a lot of animals could be included in
the design.
The aim was to make the mural colourful but also
to keep it simple since it was meant to cater for children 2-5.
The result is a fantastic colourful mural that really enhances
the playground and that has received many positive reactions from
parents and children alike.
The sea mural is still under construction - it grows
as they get ideas. The fish are made from plywood and then painted.
Also on the drawing board is the possibility of adding a treasure
chest with a lift up lid to make the art interactive.
It's amazing what a difference a mural can make
to a playground. By entering this competition Frankton Christian
Kindergarten would really like to encourage other centres to think
about adding a mural to their playground. A simple design, some
good quality paint and some people who love drawing and painting
is all you need to make your centre an even more exciting place
to come to!
The mural complete, the kindergarten exterior, new
shed and concrete path are all due for a coat of paint.
