Background to mural creation:
The office of the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust is located down an alley, making all members keen to add something bright and beautiful to draw the eye back to the office. The big blank wall presented the ideal opportunity to add colour and promote the work of the trust so that community members will understand what the aims of the trust are.

The Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust has been formed to re-establish a healthy diversity of indigenous plants and animals on the mountain. The aim of the trust is to restore the dawn chorus, to fill the forest to capacity with native birds, insects, reptiles, frogs and other wildlife and to share it with all New Zealanders.

With poor weather hindering progress, this mural is yet to have the finishing touches added.
