While paint and flooring may be the mainstays of a room scheme, wallpaper has become a popular addition.
Planning a room scheme can be tricky. There are so many components, from the big-picture items like flooring and wall paint, to details like soft furnishings, furniture, lighting and accessories.
If you start with the framework, you can easily fill in the details. Always start with the parts of the room that you are likely to live with the longest. Choose your flooring and soft furnishings first and then the paint colour. There are thousands of paint colours available from Resene so it’s generally easier to find a paint to match your flooring and furnishings than the other way around. And if you get the paint colour wrong, it’s much easier and cheaper to paint over it, than it is to replace flooring or furnishings. While paint is a perfect solution for walls, there are also many exciting wallpapers available from Resene that you can team up with your paint.
Interior designer Greg Booth works with Otago Design at Carpet Court in Dunedin and has put these themed schemes together to inspire you.
A sophisticated and moody scheme that’s perfect for winter, but will transcend all seasons. This scheme works well in any style of home.
Anchoring the scheme are walls in Resene Triple Rakaia as well as a boldly patterned feature wallpaper, Resene Flock 3 2559-21. On the floor is Gerflor Texline Soho Dark Grey, topped with a gorgeously shaggy rug made from SmartStrand Mama Mia in White Wash. The trims and ceilings are Resene Half Whiteout.
Resene Flourish is a fresh background wall tone for this fun and colourful scheme. The flooring is a mix of SmartStrand Fashion Knowledge in Flame Red and an Irvine vinyl called Bubble Gum Stripes, colour 16. The quirky wallpaper is Manhattan 8845-27 from Resene ColorShops teamed with trims in Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream.
With the slate-grey of Resene Bluff as a background, this masculine retro scheme uses a stunning wall-art style wallpaper, Alta Gamma Wandbild 15895 from Resene, as a centrepiece. On the floor is the dusky carpet, Karastan Newport Grande, in Castle Hill, as well as Gerflor Texline vinyl in Natural 1557. Trims are in Resene Quarter Fossil.
In this chic apartment scheme, Resene Quarter Stack walls beautifully complement feature wallpapers in Flock 3 2560-65 and Flock 3 2560-10, from Resene. On the floor, Gerflor Texline 1436 Point Light Grey with its circular motif, is topped with rugs made from Karastan NewPort in Compton Bay. The trims are in Resene White Pointer, while a hot pink leather lounge suite is a must for this scheme, represented here by Resene Knock Out.
