Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Make an illuminated sign for your childrens room.
Wall colour in final image: Resene Cararra
Shelf: Resene Half Rice Cake
Step 1: Print out a quote or words that you want on your sign. Make sure that they will fit in your photo frame. Carefully cut out each letter. Disassemble the photo frame. Using loops of sellotape, stick the letters, back to front, on the back of the glass. Make sure they are spaced evenly and are straight. Check that it reads properly when you turn the glass over!
Step 2: Using a paintbrush, paint the glass. Don’t put too much paint on your brush and try to brush away from the letters to that you don’t force paint under the letters. You can either do two coats of paint to get a good, total coverage, or, you can do one coat so that the lights shine through the thinner paint for a painterly effect.

Step 3: Carefully pull off the letters while the paint is still wet. Any bleed through can be scraped off with a knife.
Step 4: Once the paint is dry, reassemble the frame and glass. Zig zag the seed lights back and forth across the back of the frame and secure with sellotape to the side of the frame.
