Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Capture a little one’s feet with this colourful pot for mum. It’s a great way to remember your children’s early years once they have reached adulthood.
Resene testpot paints in your choice of colours, Fleur used:
Step 1
Start with a concrete flower pot. Fleur’s is about 18cm tall and came already painted. If you are going to use a terracotta pot, you will need to seal it first with Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer inside and out before applying any paint.
Step 2
To put paint on a foot, you need to work quickly as the heat of the skin can dry the paint quite fast, so be generous with the amount of paint that you apply on the foot. Because Fleur was working with a little foot, She found it quicker and easier to apply the paint with her fingertip.
Step 3
Press the foot against the side of the pot. Be careful that the foot doesn’t skid in the paint.
Step 4
Repeat with the other foot, making sure to put it on the other side of the first footprint rather than next to it like a normal footprint.
Step 5
Touch up the footprints if needed. Fleur used Resene Quarter Milk White, which was a good colour match to the pot.
Step 6
Use a small craft paintbrush and Resene Black to paint on the body and antennae of the butterfly.
Step 7
Finish by painting on a flight trail, again with Resene Black. Fill the pot with some good quality potting mix and one of mum’s favourite plants.
Top tip: Use handprints on the other side of the pot to create a handprint butterfly using the same Resene colours as the foot butterfly.
