Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Add a little colour to a child’s room or help them to create their own art with this easy to make rain cloud art. It’s the perfect pick me up craft for a rainy day.
Wall painted in Resene Eighth Canterbury Clay and tray in Resene Venice Blue.
Step 1
Use a craft knife to cut off the middle pointy bits of 3-4 egg cartons. Fleur used 16 pointy bits.
Step 2
Paint four of the egg carton bits in each of the following colours; Resene Half Sail, Resene Picton Blue, Resene Wet N Wild and Resene Cobalt.
Step 3 (a)
While they are drying, cut out a cloud shape from cardboard and paint Resene Picton Blue and Resene Cobalt on to the lower two-thirds of the cloud.
Step 3 (b)
Spread PVA glue on to the remaining white unpainted area and cover this area with cotton balls. Carefully paint more Resene Picton Blue on to the underside of the cotton balls.
Step 4
Poke a hole in the top of each of the egg carton bits and thread a length of string through them, having them form a graduated colour scheme. Tie knots in the string to stop each of the egg cartons bits from slipping down.
Step 5
Use some tape to attach each of the strings to the back of the cloud.
Top tip: Paint tissue paint in dabs of Resene whites and attach this to your cloud instead of cotton balls.
