Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 63

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: 1.8m fence palings (x3), 100mm x 50mm timber (approx 440mm), 50mm exterior wood screws, paintbrush, pencil, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Poppy, Resene Quick Dry, sandpaper, saw, screwdriver, tape measure.

To get the look: Mark painted the terracotta pot with Resene Malibu.

Other ideas: This planter box could also be stained with any colour from the Resene Waterborne Woodsman range.

Instructions

Step one
Measure and mark four 550mm lengths and four 600mm lengths from the fence palings.

Step two
Cut these lengths to size.

Step three
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Step four
Assemble the pieces to form two square frames, as shown. Fix at each corner with 50mm screws.

Step five
Measure, mark and cut four 110mm pieces from the 100mm x 50mm timber. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Step six
Attach the two frames together by screwing the four blocks of timber at each inner corner of the planter box, as shown.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the planter box and allow to dry.

Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Poppy to the planter box, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
