Nice rack - BBQ rack project

Instructions:

Get ready for a long summer of BBQs and entertaining this season by tidying up your barbie area with these great ideas for your BBQ space. Buy a small piece of 7mm thick,1200x 595mm plywood. With a pencil and a ruler, measure and draw out a 40x50cm rectangle and cut it out with a hand saw. Stain the board with Resene Woodsman Whitewash or your preferred wood stain colour. Draw your preferred barbeque design on to the top 3/4 of the plywood. If you are not good at drawing you can print out a design and trace it onto the wood. When you are happy with your drawing, paint it with two coats of Resene Double Cod Grey using a fine paintbrush and leave to dry. Buy four simple hooks and a wall mounted bottle opener and seal them, plus all their screws. Resene ColorShop staff can tell you the best primer to suit your hooks. Once thoroughly dry, paint all the hooks and opener with two coats of Resene Double Cod Grey. When all the hooks, screws and opener are completely dry, measure and drill four sets of screw holes for the hooks, 2cm up from the bottom and 3cm in from either edge. Space the two inside hooks evenly in the centre. Centre the bottle opener under your painted design and drill two holes for its screws. Fasten all the hooks and the bottle opener to your board with the screws and a screwdriver. Hang the BBQ rack on a sheltered, outside wall handy to the BBQ so everything you need for the barbie is always on-hand and summer cooking is sorted.

2. Apron art

What you'll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Apron
  • Masking tape
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Printer
  • Paper

Apron art

Instructions:

On paper, draw a cow, a pig and a chook standing on each other’s backs. If drawing isn’t your thing you can search the internet for images and print them out. On the back of your paper, scribble with a dark pencil around the outline of your animals. Place your image on the front of a plain apron and tack in position with masking tape. With a sharp pencil draw around the outline of your entire animal picture. This will leave a light impression of your design on the fabric. Go over the line with a pencil to make the outline nice and clear. With a fine paintbrush, paint in the design with two coats of Resene Double Cod Grey.

3. Terrific tools

What you'll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • BBQ tools
  • Sandpaper
  • Masking tape
  • Paintbrush

Terrific tools

Instructions:

Lightly sand all the wooden parts of your tools. Mask out all the places where the wood touches the metal. Paint all the wood segments with two coats of Resene Poured Milk and dry thoroughly. Once dry, tape evenly spaced stripes onto the painted sections of the tools using 18mm wide washi masking tape. Leave an exposed area the same width as the tape between each strip. Paint the exposed stripes with two coats of Resene Double Cod Grey. When dry, carefully peel off all the masking tape and hang on your BBQ rack.
