Building blocks

It’s easy to create these colourful traditional building blocks using a few Resene Colorwood testpots.

Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 07

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Length of square dressed timber (ours measured 42mm x 42mm), Paintbrush, Pencil, Resene Aquaclear satin, Resene Colorwood testpots in Resene Apollo Blue, Resene Desert Yellow, Resene Deep Purple, Resene Emerald, Resene Red Pepper and Resene Satin Orange, Saw, Sandpaper, Set square

To get the look: Mark painted the table with Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Woodstock.

Other ideas: Blocks could also be primed with Resene Quick Dry and then painted with Resene testpots from the Resene KidzColour range.

Measure, mark and cut the wood into 24 cubes. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Apply one coat of Resene Desert Yellow to four of the cubes and allow to dry.
Step 3

Apply one coat of Resene Satin Orange to four of the cubes and allow to dry.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Red Pepper to four of the cubes and allow to dry.
Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Emerald to four of the cubes and allow to dry.

Apply one coat of Resene Apollo Blue to four of the cubes and allow to dry.
Step 7

Apply one coat of Resene Deep Purple to four of the cubes and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear satin to all the blocks, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
