Loving the space

The brief Sacha set herself was to create a fun, imaginative environment that was colourful yet still complemented the style of the rest of their house for her young daughter. She had requested a purple colour for her new room, which set the colour palette selection in motion. It was important that she felt comfortable and had ownership in her new space before her baby sister arrived.

The walls required a lot of preparation as parts of them are at least 50 years old. Resene Broadwall Surface Prep and Seal helped achieve a smooth foundation to start the colour work. They were topcoated in Resene Quarter Napa and Resene Innuendo.

Resene Clementine Orange is used as a feature colour for the bird motif in the mural, which helps create a focal point to the room. It also features Resene Quarter Napa, Resene Smoky Green and Resene Beryl Green.

The toy boxes and name artwork were cut and built from plywood and then based out in Resene Bokara Grey. Colours selected from the Resene Karen Walker Paints range Resene Smoky Green, Resene Jetsam Brown, Resene Beryl Green, Resene Ecru White and Resene Clementine Orange - were dry brushed to achieve the look of aged timber panels. Copper nails and stencilling were added to complete the design and then the finish was protected with Resene Aquaclear waterborne varnish. The ceiling was painted in Resene Ceiling Paint white.

As a result their daughter loves her new space and even slept soundly during her first night in her room.
