With inspiration from Pinterest they decided to paint clouds as a mural for their newborn's nursery. The room was originally very plain, with cream wallpaper and brown wood edging. This was their first ever attempt at painting.
Once decided on the colour and style, they purchased a few testpots to confirm that they were on the right track and keep the inspiration up. Initial attempts and choosing of the colours did not combine exactly as desired. So they asked to speak with the colour consultant at their local Resene ColorShop. The resulting testpots – Resene Moonbeam, Resene Energy Yellow, Resene Pale Slate and Resene Shady Lady - combined perfectly in both fluorescent lighting at night and in sunshine. For a slight twist on the yellows and greys, rather than have the rest of the walls grey or white, they decided to go with a light lilac – half Resene Blue Chalk.
The design was simply planned out in MS-Word, using set sized circle shapes of greys and yellows arranged in groups. They used this as a reference for painting the wall. Getting the curves perfectly round initially caused some stress. Various techniques were briefly tried, but they ended up using a piece of string looped around a small speed brush for the curved edges, then filling it in with the recommended Resene rollers.
