Decorating for children

Tania’s 10 year son had been in his room since he was born so it was time to redecorate. He wanted green, loves stags and things made of wood. The antler set was one he had caught with his father earlier in the year, which his Dad mounted on a piece of Totara.

Resene Mantis was chosen for the walls, complemented by a wallpaper hung horizontally to look like a cabin wall. The ceiling and door is painted Resene Sidecar. Using drawers from a timber dresser and an old wooden box, Tania stencilled images of stags and a tree in Resene Black. Dressed pine was added to the drawers to create shelves.

Her daughter’s colour scheme is very different to her son’s. They tried eight different blue testpots before deciding on Resene Malibu, which goes so well with the Komar wall mural Piccadilly they had chosen for a feature wall.

Using Resene Colour Me Pink, Tania painted the fronts of the drawers from a vintage dresser. These are mounted on the wall as shelves with off cuts of the wall mural in the back of the drawer/shelves. The ceiling and door is painted the same colour – Resene Sidecar – as her son’s room.
