When Sarah’s husband fell through a rotten piece of decking while fixing another piece, they knew it was time to bite the bullet and replace the whole dodgy thing. If they’re doing that, they told themselves, they might as well add another bedroom... and completely overhaul the kitchen and create a new living room from the oversized master bedroom... and ring the bank.
This saw them essentially reverse the functional spaces in this wooden 1920s home and modernise it with better flow, while working with period features and quirks, such as skewed angles.
They opted for a pastel palette, all beautifully offset by Resene Alabaster on the trimmings. The master bedroom in Resene Cinderella is a resolutely feminine space, with the paint colour based on the cerise-embroidered drape fabric that Sarah’s husband chose.
Allowing a three-year old to choose his bedroom colour paid off when Louis opted for pale yellow, Resene Gin Fizz, which complements the original lead-light windows.
The baby’s bedroom was updated in Resene Peppermint as a calm colour bringing in the courtyard greenery with a bench seat relocated and repainted in Resene Tea.
The open plan kitchen-living in the soft grey of Resene Half Iron works perfectly with favourite blues and greens as well as the native timber flooring they exposed; they’ve had many people ask them the name of this particular paint colour!
