Creative ways

When Caroline and her family bought their 1980s home it had white exterior walls with dark brown wooden battens, decking and roof, in a ‘Sussex Cottage’ style. They painted the exterior in Resene Iko Iko and the roof in Resene Twizel.

They have had a very limited budget and have been gradually updating the dated features in creative ways, such as covering the panelled front door with a photograph on a printed vinyl screen.

Caroline decided to create a frieze to integrate the deck on the first floor with the ground floor and entry, using a leaf motif stencil, small paintbrush, ruler and a step ladder, and choosing colours from the front door screen – Resene Hint Of Grey, Resene Espresso, Resene Twizel, Resene Mellow Yellow, Resene Grass Hopper, Resene Onahau, Resene Enigma, Resene Ebb and Resene In the Mauve.
