Bad bach no more

This small but now perfectly formed home, was once a ‘1980s bad’ bach.

bedroom bunks

The Gradon family have owned it almost four years and have spent months giving it a make-over. It took that long because they do almost everything themselves in their spare time which is what they've always done.  They get great satisfaction from creating and it enables them to keep the cost manageable.

Justine loves colour.

They have sea peeps from their elevated position but didn't want to go too clichéd with blues so have gone over to the green side. The main colours throughout the house are Resene Rice Cake and Resene Pearl Lusta for ceilings and walls to give a clean and spacious feel.

To satisfy the need for colour, they have used Resene Spring Rain on the upper walls of the kitchen which works beautifully with the timber shelves and white subway tiles. The same green has been continued onto the living area wall facing the ocean.

Once they had extended onto their large deck to create a bright and beautiful conservatory-style dining area they painted the board and batten (was previously Resene Woodsman Shadow Match) Resene Surf Crest on the lower half, which has a bit more depth than Spring Rain

The Resene Surf Crest green looks great on the front door too, alongside the black board and batten of the exterior in Resene Woodsman Shadow Match.

In the bathroom alongside the white is a combination of Resene Spring Rain, Resene Dark Oak stain on the shelves and Resene Clover accessories.

The guest room has a feature wall of Resene French Grey which is gorgeous with the pinks in the coverlet and duvet. One wardrobe door is painted in Resene Blackboard Paint and framed with Washi tape.

The entire stairwell is Resene Rice Cake with testpot highlights and Resene Black stair railing leading to the kids’ room with the bunks and a beach-hut sleeping loft. The room is Resene Rice Cake and the loft is a watered-down version of antique red, turquoise and white.

Thanks to the Gradon family.
