Paint by plan

Eclectic describes Cheryl and Juriaan. They love old and new. Juriaan has the flair to put fine china with pottery and oak furniture with modern.

Taking on the large task of renovating their home, their builder talked them through how to go about doing a renovation and managed the project. Starting with a new roof, the 1950s rough cast home has been transformed without changing the footprint.

The builder’s team of young apprentices were a treat. They were on site with smiles ready for demolition and rebuilding. The builder talked them through each task. They learned how to reposition windows and doors and make crooked beams straight. The plasterboard stopper was very fussy and gave them flat walls and flat ceilings ready to paint, not a seam in sight.

Juriaan studied the Resene colour charts and experimented with Resene testpots before choosing the creative colour palette.

The young painter was diligent. After painting the four hallway doors different colours – Resene Seeker, Resene Somerset, Resene Shirley Temple and Resene Material Girl, and our scullery shelves in Resene Colour Me Pink, he never questioned the orange fire surround or the man hole (oops person hole) in Resene Seeker. The picture wall is Resene Billabong, the ceilings are Resene Black White and the other walls Resene Linen. The master bedroom is painted in Resene Cumulus and Resene Rice Paper with a Resene Pip Studio feature wall. The painter had the plan Juriaan created and he followed it, enjoying the paint by colour nature of the project.

Resene paints were used outside as well as in, with the rough cast exterior painted in Resene Akaroa.

Cheryl gives all credit for pondering and selecting the colours goes to Juriaan. Decorating is his passion. He is the shopper and researcher.

Both agree “our home is a reflection of who we are, not what people expect to see or would prefer to see.”
