The client has a love for colour and the end result is a master ensuite that is on trend with splashes of colour.
The brief for this master ensuite was to create a trendy and fresh bathroom in an underutilised sunroom and hallway cupboard. The young first home buyers also wanted a space that was soft with a splash of colour that could work cohesively with the grey and blue tonings seen throughout the rest of the 60s home.
The challenge was to take a space with no existing plumbing and an awkward angled wall and transform it into a beautiful and functional ensuite. Careful planning of the small space was done in conjunction with the plumber and architect for council consent. Plans were made for the dividing wall to fit between the window mullion while the nib wall behind the proposed vanity and toilet not only acted as a design feature but as a way to house the plumbing coming into the room. A window was removed to maximise wall space and create more privacy.
With the layout of the space finalised, the aesthetics of the room were meticulously worked through, starting with dark grey and white finger tiles as a timeless base. The custom-made vanity in Prime Laminate Foxy along with the Resene Wafer wall gives the space a pop of colour, while the Primestone top and soft grey vessel breaks up the black tapware and trims throughout. The rounded handles and mirror add some fun and a point of difference to the small ensuite.
While the grey and white tiles were safe, the colour choice needed to be fun. A few different shades were tried, but Resene Wafer proved a lot softer and just the right tone for the vision. It was just enough pink so that it would work well with the tiles and blue vanity, yet not overbearing to distract from the rest of the space.
The lighting was an important feature which was not to be overlooked. The lighting functions on two switches. The first gives off a relaxing warm soft glow from the wall globes and LED niche lighting, perfect upon waking or when winding down for the night. The second provides more functional general lighting, and in conjunction with the globes makes this the ideal lighting when getting ready for the day.
The client has a love for colour and the end result is a master ensuite that is on trend with splashes of colour. The materials and finishes were chosen intentionally to work with the client’s vision and how they wanted to work within the space, from the tile and cabinetry finishes, right down to the specifics of how the lighting was to make a person feel when entering the room.
The colour palette is a careful balance of not going too extreme as to date the space too quickly or affect future plans to on sell, while still delivering on the client brief for a fresh, trendy space with some colour.
