a splash of colour

In the design of this inspiring educational space, colour was key. The branding colours were retained for the exterior and used to make the building pop alongside Ironsand colour finishes and a graphic window treatment to complement the custom made Resene Pantone colour matches. This helped reduce the heat and glare through the windows without affecting the stunning view out the windows from inside.

The interior colour scheme in Resene Black White was designed to keep the space light and bright as the base build materials are very industrial. This was grounded with skirtings in Resene Black. Highlight colours on the changing rooms in Resene Tory Blue and Resene Sunset were introduced for extra interest, while keeping to the brief which was not to use typical ‘boy’ ‘girl’ colours. The brand colours were brought into the contrasting colours used for the beach huts and walls in the change area. Custom made life ring pendant lights manufactured to hang in the foyer wow customers when they walk in.

Resene Zylone Sheen is used throughout the interior and worked over a wide range of substrates. Resene Lumbersider was used on the exterior block, concrete and canopy, for its durability and washabilty while being versatile over a wide range of substrate options.

Research was undertaken throughout the project including the design team experiencing swim lessons, with the child experiencing the swim lesson experience and the adult the parent experience. This hands on experienced ensured that the final design was inspiring and interesting for all that visit.
