It’s easy to recycle some old tongue-and-groove timber into a whitewash memo board with a little bit of help from Resene.
Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner – Project 86
Difficulty level: Moderate
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Chamois.
Other ideas: For a soft pink effect use Resene Colorwood Whitewash tinted to Resene Becalm.
Step one
Cut the piece of plywood to the dimensions listed above.
Step two
Cut seven different length pieces of tongue and groove timber ranging from 350mm to 450mm.
Step three
Apply a generous amount of PVA glue to the piece of plywood.
Step four
Place the pieces of tongue-and-groove timber on top of the plywood, as shown, and allow the glue to dry.
Step five
Lightly sand the tongue-and-groove timber to remove any rough edges and to ‘key’ the surface.
Step six
Wipe off any sanding residue with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Colorwood Whitewash to the memo board, brushing in the direction of the grain. Allow to dry.
Step eight
Fix a hanging device to the top of the memo board using two cup hooks and a short piece of sisal rope.
