You will need: Hard cover exercise book, Paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush), Resene Crackle Effect, Resene Multishield+ gloss, Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene Testpots of Resene Pulse, Resene Resolution Blue and Resene Rubber Duck

Top tip: If you want to decorate a soft cover exercise book in the same way, glue two pieces of stiff cardboard to the front and back covers and allow the glue to dry before painting.

Here's another idea: This poetry book was painted with Resene Havoc (basecoat), Resene Kermit (topcoat) and Resene West Side (letters).

Step one
Paint the front and back covers of the exercise book with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry.

Step two
Paint the front and back covers of the exercise book with two coats of Resene Rubber Duck, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Crackle Effect to the front and back covers of the exercise book and allow to dry.

Step four
Paint the front and back covers of the exercise book with one coat of Resene Resolution Blue and allow two hours to dry.

Step five
Using an artists’ brush and Resene Pulse, paint the words ‘My Secret Diary’ on the front cover of the exercise book.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ gloss to the front and back covers of the exercise book and allow two hours to dry. How cool is that?
